Nitin Mukesh – A Noteworthy Rotarian Singing runs in Nitin Mukesh’s genes – a talent that he got from his super popular father, singer Mukesh. Nitin, a proud Rotarian, has sung in more than 300 Hindi films, and some of his noted soulful renditions include, ‘Aaja Re’ (Noorie), ‘My Name is Lakhan’ (Ram Lakhan), ‘Zindagi Har Kadam’ (Meri Jung) to name a few. He established his claim to fame with the ditty ‘So Gaya Yeh Jahan’ from Tezaab, which he sang with his trademark gentle, melodious voice.
Born in 1950 to the illustrious singer Mukesh and his wife Sarla, Nitin Mukesh began his career in 1966 by delivering a couplet in Raj Kapoor’s movie Mera Naam Joker filmed on Rishi Kapoor. Nitin Mukesh was warned by his father then, “Singing is a beautiful hobby, but a painful profession.”
Later, Nitin made his mark and got the opportunity to work with some of the best music directors, including Khayyam, Bappi Lahiri, Rajesh Roshan and Anand Milind. In 2006, he toured the world with his show Kal Ki Yaadein to pay tribute to his father.
Besides singing, Nitin Mukesh also followed another career that few know of. He worked with the famous Hindi film director Hrishikesh Mukherjee as assistant director. Nitin considered Hrishida as a father figure and they worked together to make super-hit movies like Namak Haraam, Abhimaan, Subse Bada Sukh, Guddi, Buddha Mil Gaya and Anand.
