Mid Town Musings: October 2015

Dear Rotarians,

In September, we had some very good speakers on diverse subjects. September 7 was the installation of the new Interact Club of Walsingham House School attended by Interact Committee Chairman Jamsheed Patel and myself. In response to an appeal by NASEOH, for support of physically challenged persons to take part in the Mumbai Marathon 2016, Anil Kejriwal, Gaurav Kapadia, Naren Mohatta and Abuzar Zakir are contributing ` 10,000 each and the club has matched it by contributing ` 40,000. This is an annual affair and our club has regularly contributed towards this event.

Further we are investigating two new institutions UMEED and ASEEMA, which help children with or at risk of developmental disabilities. We have visited these institutions and are impressed with their work, we shall put up the proposal to the Board of Directors for a final approval. A successful medical workshop was carried out jointly in collaboration with Saifee hospital. About 60 police officers took part in it. Dr Purdahwalla, the keynote speaker made an audio-visual presentation on Healthy Living. For this, I must thank the efforts of Rtn Abuzar Zakir and Rtn Naren Mohatta.

This month sees the arrival of 18 German students under the International Youth Exchange program whose chairman is Rtn Manoj Jalan. The students shall visit some important RCBMT projects to understand the work being carried out by us in various fields. They shall be welcomed at our regular meeting on October 28 at the Taj. It is heartening to note that one of our senior Rotarians, Ramgopal Mehra, has entered his 100th year. Not only does he keep himself fit, but also makes it a point to attend as many meetings as possible. I wish him the very best.

—RP ANAND,

President 2015-16
