Mid Town Musings: May 2017

Our beloved Rtn Ramgopal Mehra who recently celebrated his 100th birthday, passed away on Saturday, 20th May, 2017.

He lived a life full of enriching experiences. Rtn Ramgopal Mehra spent his childhood in Amritsar and moved to Japan at the age of 18 to pursue a career in textiles. He then moved to Shanghai and later travelled to East Africa due to the compulsions of World War II.

Eventually, in 1942, he returned to India with a deep understanding of world cultures and global business practices.

Rtn Ramgopal Mehra was a Charter Member of the Rotary Club of Bombay Mid-Town (RCBMT). Through Rotary he had a chance to meet a number of interesting people.

Ramgopalji married Urmilaji in 1944 and they are blessed with two children and an extended family of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Urmilaji is also a great singer and has acted in many plays and has also been President of the Inner Wheel Club of RCBMT.

Rtn Mehra’s mantra for success in life was honesty and hard work, with truth being the greatest religion. He was extremely committed to Rotary and continued to be regular at Rotary meetings even at the age of 100.

He will be dearly missed.
