Local Body Tax

BMC and some other municipal bodies in Maharashtra are now preparing to scrap the Octroi Tax collected at various entry points in the city and instead introduce a Local Body Tax (LBT).

Although touted as a dealer-friendly levy, the introduction of LBT has already run into trouble with trade bodies. The traders protested for the fear that such law would increase harassment and corruption from local authorities.

The speaker Mohan Gurnani, as the trader’s representative will give us his perspective about the provisions of the law and also about applicability of LBT.
