Dear Friends,
With all the fun and joie de vivre of welcoming 2018 leaving us in brilliant spirits for almost the whole of January, the next few months are pregnant with promise and all things wondrous.
The highlight of the month was the unforgettable Rajasthani Night Fellowship held on 12th January. Beautiful venue and decor, fantastic dance and music, lovely weather and a huge variety of delectable food marked the evening. I was thrilled to see the great attendance and participation by members. It was an evening none of us will forget for a long time to come.
The New Year began with the 3rd January meeting where Ajit Batra and Nishtha Lalbhai of Atul Ltd. spoke to us on greening of the deserts with date palm tissue culture. On 17th January, Byram Dhalla, Homi Kaka, Saroosh Dinshaw and Amit Goela shared their incredible road journey across two continents, from London to Mumbai. We had our Third Club Assembly on 24th January sharing plans and ideas.
On 25th January, some of us from the Club visited Ummeed Centre that provides therapy support to children with developmental disabilities. The well managed centre helps thousands of children every year, and to help them continue with their good work, the Club gave them a contribution. On 29th January, we visited ISKCON at Babulnath to give our cheques for donations mobilised towards supporting the mid-day meal program run by ISKCON. For many years, our Club has been at the forefront in the District in supporting this cause. The same evening, I met two teachers from Germany spending a couple of weeks in Mumbai on a Faculty Exchange Program at HR College. This Faculty Exchange has emanated from our annual Youth Exchange Program to Germany.
The Rotary District’s flagship event of the year, DISCON, will be held on the 3rd and 4th February. Rotary showcases its achievements and programs at this event where a galaxy of speakers are also invited.
Yours in Rotary,
Pres Rtn Manoj Jalan
