Mid Town Musings: April 2018

Dear Friends,

The month of March saw a lovely Fellowship hosted by Rtn. Geeta Parikh at the Willingdon Club lawns where members enjoyed great food, drinks and company. Before that, on the day of Holi, the German team of Jalna Plastic Surgery Camp transited through Mumbai and some of us met them over dinner. Work on an annual project close to my heart, the International Youth Exchange to Germany, began with visits to Lala College and HR College to meet students and parents, present the Exchange Program and conduct the selection process. On 13th March, I was invited by our Innerwheel Club to the SL&SS School for the inauguration of their Happy School Project. I was impressed to see the commitment and participation of the Innerwheelers. On 17th March, we visited Badlapur for the Mobility Aids appliance distribution camp. Over 125 people were recipients of almost 150 mobility appliances which will make a significant difference in their daily life. One of the highlights of the month was the visit to Cuttack, Odisha, for the ‘Project Good Health’ medical camp. It was heartening to see over 750 people come and take the benefit of consulting doctors from eight different specialities.

Our weekly meetings have been as interesting. On 7th March, movie and TV actress, Smita Jaykar spoke to us about her journey towards spirituality — ‘An Experiential Insight.’ Mr. S. Venkateswaran was the speaker on 21st March and he spoke on ‘Defy Stress, Be Happy, Always’, something that all of us need to imbibe. On 28th March, Mr. A. N. Roy, former Commissioner of Police, Mumbai, and Director General of Police, Maharashtra, spoke about the farmers’ crisis in Maharashtra and the work he has been doing in recent years to help the widows of farmers who have committed suicide.

As we head into the summer months, we intend to keep our spree of good speakers alive and look forward to active participation and attendance by all of you.

Yours in Rotary,
Pres. Rtn Manoj Jalan
