Let me start off by applauding the active participation undertaken by members of the Rotary Club of Bombay Mid-Town in the month of August. We had great speakers in the months of July and August, but the icing on the cake was the talk by Mount Everest summiteer Bhushan Harshe which was held on Sunday, 29th July. During the talk we learnt that the work that goes behind attempting something like climbing Mount Everest is huge.

We had great speakers in the months of July and August, but the icing on the cake was the talk by Mount Everest summiteer Bhushan Harshe which was held on Sunday, 29th July. During the talk we learnt that the work that goes behind attempting something like climbing Mount Everest is huge.
We were also fortunate to be able to support the Kerala relief operations. We contributed to the services being provided by Saifee Hospital and as a result, they were able to take more medications and even doctors and nurses to the worst affected areas in Kerala.
The visit to ISKON kitchen, like every year, was wonderful, especially with the sampling of the simple yet delicious khichdi. We do plan on visiting a Municipal School in Colaba and engage with the children there, but, most importantly, we want to take our children and grandchildren along with us as I firmly believe that this way they will learn more about empathy and gratitude. Hence, I would encourage members to bring their grandchildren and children to this school visit once it is chalked out.
Visit to NASEOH at Chembur is always fascinating. This is an organisation that helps disabled children, apart from many others. Here, children and adults are taught to make things like wheel chairs and work on the computer. We even saw a call centre within their premises which is operated by Eureka Forbes.
This year, the Inner Wheel Club, under the leadership of Asha Singh, has been an active part of our Club activities. I also take this opportunity to thank the Inner Wheel Club for their contribution to the Kerala relief operations.
On Wednesday, 15th August, we attended a Flag Hoisting ceremony at the Church of St. Andrew and St. Columba, opposite Bombay Gymkhana, with 50 children from the Homeless Street Children Project of Scots’ Kirk. Around 18 Rotarians had the pleasure to interact with these children and witness their enthusiasm.
From the Rotary and Club perspective, we had the Pre-OCV where Assistant Governor Ranbir Krishan visited our club. This was in preparation for the official visit of the District Governor and thanks to our Club office, all our papers were in order and the meeting went smoothly. We also heard our Directors and Committee Chairmen speak of their projects and plans for the coming year.
Like every other year, this year too, our Club sponsored awards for the prize distribution ceremony of Sophia College. Mr. Murlidhar Jalan and I got the opportunity to distribute some of these awards.
This month, instead of a regular fellowship evening, our Club experimented something new—a play. While the play brought about mixed reactions, I am personally happy that we tried something different and in the process, learnt new things.
