Dear Friends,
Two months have passed already but it feels like my installation as the Club President happened only yesterday. The clock is ticking fast and time is flying past and just when I’m beginning to enjoy my tenure as the Club President, I feel that it will be over before I know it. I also feel that a year is too short a time to initiate and complete major activities and projects—as it is rightly said, ‘So little time, so much to do’.
Our charismatic editor and fellow Rotarian Sunayana Vora has done a great job with the new look of our monthly Bulletin—it looks fresh and very youthful!
The month of July entailed a lot of fun and several activities and now August has arrived. This month, we had a good number of activities and also great speakers. The Fellowship Evening at the CCI on 7th August definitely was one which was appreciated and enjoyed by members thanks to the superb fellowship and music.
The Annual Prize Distribution held at Sophia College for Women on 3rd August was very well organised by the students of the college. We have been attending this event for many years now. The principal, teachers and students gave me a warm welcome as the President of the Rotary Club of Bombay Mid-Town. I was honoured as the Chief Guest and was given the opportunity to give away prizes to students who’d excelled in both academics and extracurricular activities. Rtn. Murlidhar Jalan has been instrumental in getting us this prestigious tie-up.
The visit to the J J Dharamshala in Byculla on 8th August, arranged by our member Dr. Kasbekar, was very well organised. Nearly 100 senior citizens were entertained with good music and songs and had a good time. Lunch was also served to all.
For our Anugraha School Project in Ambernath, on 1st August, we had Mr. Anuj Didwania, Mr. Anand Didwania’s son, come forward to support us by not only adopting this school but also promising to take it to another level. I am sure that Rtn. Kersi Hilloo—who’d initiated this project—too is very excited about this. I would like to thank IPP Dr. Deepak Garg for facilitating this initiative.
And not to forget our Sunday Fun Day on 18th and 19th August which saw about 55 Rotarians and guests attending the weekend affair—full of fun, entertainment and activities—at Fariyas Resort, Lonavala. Many thanks to Rtn. Jagar Thakur and the Fariyas staff for all the splendid arrangements.
It was also a pleasant experience for me to attend the Installation Ceremony of our Interactors at the Interact Club of Walsingham School on 26th August. Nearly 500 students attended this very prestigious and perfectly managed ceremony at the elegant heritage hall within the school. The school principal, teachers and students and members of our Interact Club very professionally managed the entire show. All of them had very good words for our club. Thanks to Rtn. Jamsheed Patel for getting this initiated.
I now look forward to the rest of the months with the same fervour and zeal and hope to help our club reach greater heights.
Our e-learning programme and eye cataract surgery projects start soon. I seek the help and participation of all our members to get these projects going.
Looking forward to the coming months with greater zeal and enthusiasm!
Thanking you in Rotary,
Pres. Rtn. Abuzar N. Zakir
