Mid Town Musings: February 2015

My Fellow Rotarians,

I had a very interesting experience last month. The team of Gaurav Kapadia, Naren Mohatta, Ashwin Shah and Anil Kejriwal asked me to accompany them to meet Swami Radhakishan Prabhuji of Iskcon. The purpose of this visit was to hand over an accumulated amount collected for the Midday Meals activity which we carry out along with Iskcon who serve the meals in municipal schools. The attraction was the invitation from Swamiji to have high tea at Govinda, the restaurant in the temple complex. When we reached there Swamiji was waiting at the table reserved for us and promptly asked us to order our drinks. I asked for coffee but was told that it did not exist on the menu. We were then treated to samosas, bhelpuri and other snacks followed by a glass of lassi why not try these out. During this meeting one of us asked him what the purpose of life was. He being very knowledgeable, very elaborately explained to us the philosophy of life.

The second attraction was to visit the temple, which opened every evening at 4.30pm. We were taken through a separate path leading to the temple where we enjoyed the darshan. It is interesting that along with our objectives of serving the community, we also got the opportunity to experience such things.

I wish more Rotarians would be more hands-on with their service and reap the rewards by meeting such interesting people.
