Mid Town Musings: August 2014

Focus on Families

Every year at the Rotary Club of Bombay Mid-Town, we dedicate August as the month for Membership and Extension. We remind ourselves of the importance of membership early in every Rotary year because the job of growing membership is one that we can never begin too soon.

We have talked for many years about the importance of the family of Rotary. In this Rotary year, I want to make not just the family of Rotary, but our own Rotary families a priority in our membership.

Inviting our spouses into Rotary isn’t just about increasing our numbers. It addresses the reality that Rotary still has far more men than women as members, and that is something we need to work on. When we bring more women into Rotary, our Club becomes more appealing to prospective female members and we become more productive as well.

Three members Dilip Piramal, Arvind Parikh and Abbas Jasdanwala have left the Club. We must bring in new members. I am appealing to the younger members and ladies to introduce more members. I am sure it is much more interesting for new members when they join because our fellowship and attendance are now hand-in-hand and this is improving the Club’s atmosphere.

We had interesting speakers this month like Sanjay Jha, Dolly Thakore, Justice Srikrishna and many others. We also did some good projects such as:
1. We supported the Foundation Day celebrations at Kamla Mehta Dadar School on July 14
2. We distributed the Sophia College Annual Rotary Awards on August 2
3. We distributed prizes to the students of NASEOH Computer Class on August 28

I look forward to your presence and participation at our meetings and activities in the coming months.

Sincerely, in Rotary,
President Mohan Lalvani
